Found within a heritage precinct in one of Paarl’s oldest neighbourhoods, this early 1900’s house, was home with enough space, until our clients heard that they needed additional room for their coming son. The brief was simply to create a master bedroom with enough space to house a baby and a new walk in dressing room. As the current heritage laws support contemporary design, we launched straight into designing a room that contrasted and complimented the existing fabric. As the older houses generally lived inward, we wanted to live outward. Conceptually, the result would feel like you were sleeping in the garden, and not inside the house. We added sliding glass doors, steel structure and connected the floors and ceilings to match the old. The new addition was born out of the old.
